Morning excitement...

This morning on the way to work, while in stop and go traffic, I got rear-ended. Actually, to call it that is to be overly dramatic, it was really just a very hard bump. I caught sight of the woman behind me a moment before she hit me, she was looking down, probably dialing a cell phone. Though I did have a friend once who swore she could put on a pair of pantyhose while driving, so I guess she could have been doing that or maybe both, who knows? Either way, what she wasn’t doing was paying attention. I barely avoided bumping the guy ahead of me - by say three inches. The offender was so excited by the whole event she was at my window before I finished saying ‘F***!". Her face was so stricken I just couldn’t be mad and suggested that we pull ahead so we could get out of traffic (we were smack in the middle of a really bad construction zone). Once stopped I asked if she was unhurt, her answer was "It was my fault," so I asked again, and this time she answered in the affirmative. We inspected the damage - I think she knocked some of the dirt off of my truck...dammit...that was test dirt! We were both driving mid sized, truck like vehicles, the bumpers mated up perfectly and did their jobs - just a bump. A scratch or two, but nothing that wont buff out. But for a moment there, I thought I was going to have to call her an ambulance. I had a good case of the jitters myself, but more than once I had to ask her to take a deep breath and tell her to slow down. Thank goodness there wasn’t any damage, I’d have likely paid for it just to have prevented her from having a stroke right there on the side of the road - heh. Hopefully this will be the most exciting thing that happens to me today - whew!

Productive weekend...

Wow, what a weekend! I need a day off to recuperate! Saturday morning early I got my head shaved - ok not really but she did get a little nuts with the scissors. In truth I actually like it, and it is very quick to fix, which is always a plus! There was grocery shopping, light cleaning, and work on another bag and corresponding tutorial. Sunday I managed to get the sprinkler system up and running. I am still not sure there is enough water in the well to run an entire cycle because one of the valves coils is fried. I was able to lay out a small drip system in the rose garden and get it to run properly without pressure loss. So there is some water down there. Before laying that drip system I cleared out the rose area, seriously expecting my neighbor to pop through the weeds at any moment and greet me with a hearty "Dr. Livingston, I presume? Trimmed the roses for spring growth, cut back the sea grape and cleaned up the Plumeria. The area I cleared was only about 10 x 15, but trust me, I was hot, tired, filthy and sunburned! And pretty darned pleased with myself. I still need to lay mulch so no pictures till then ‘cause it still looks pretty barren. This morning I finished up the bag tutorial (I’m pretty darn proud of that too) and posted it as well as the first one at The Bag Lady. Feedback welcome!

Challenges...

As you know, I avoided resolutions this year and presented myself with challenges instead. For the most part I am working on a month to month basis though I have made some daily ones as well (walk, eat breakfast, no soda). I have accomplished some of them and failed at others, but I expected that and am not particularly beating myself up over it. At the end of January I’ll recap the monthly ones and grade myself on how I did (I’ll tell you then what they were - that is part of the challenge). But now, I’m thinking about February and I’ve landed a few that I think will work. The first is to do a cursory clean out of all closets, cabinets etc and hold a garage sale by the end of the month. The challenge of this will be to let things go - I can be a real packrat. The second is to make 10 bags of varying sizes to include in the yard sale. I’ve never really sold a bag, ok one for charity but I don’t think that counts. So I am asking your help, world wide web. What would you pay for a handmade tote? Small tote, denim tote (scroll down a bit), medium tote with pocket (scroll again) or with interior pocket, sling bag, large tote? Are any more successful than the others, or is there something else you'd prefer in a tote size/shape/style? Thanks!
