Crafting machine...

I was a crafting machine Sunday, and though I didn’t finish everything on my list I made one heck of a dent. The first thing I tackled was definitely the most difficult - Kimono quilt blocks for my Back Tack bag. They are ‘paper-pieced’, a quilting style I had not previously tried. The first square (blue obi) took about four hours; I swear I didn’t lay a single piece that I didn’t have to rip and replace three times - lol. In fact, it is probably a good thing I don’t have kids because I would have added a few choice expletives to their vocabulary. My Back-Tack buddy has a penchant for Japanese craft, so, I thought a Japanese motif bag would work well. The blocks are just embellishment for outside of the bag. The fabric above the squares will be the bag lining, and the burgundy canvas (beneath the left hand square) will be the bag itself. I’m still not sure about the ‘framing’ around the blocks, mostly because I’m not happy with how I mitered the corners...but I still have some time to tinker. I must say, though, that I’m pretty darn proud of them!

The next thing I accomplished was earrings for Greenie, who wants to give them as Christmas gifts. And, in a stroke of strangeness, I made myself a pair as well ;-)

Finally, I made gifts for my uncle and his wife, who will be putting my mother and I up next week. For the uncle, ‘rib-rub’, which makes some fabulous ribs (right Tiki?). For Brandy, (the dog) a seasonal set of reversible dog bandanas. And for my aunt, this bag, complete with my first magnetic snap - lol. I’ve dubbed them D snaps, because I had to get him to bend the tabs in place...for the life of me I don’t have the hand strength to bend them. I think it’s a cute bag, but I’m a little worried about it being so light ... it’s going to get dirty fast. Oh well, I made it for her to carry things down to the boat anyway, not as a purse, so it won’t matter.
It was a pleasant way to spend a rainy Sunday, especially since D was content to let me do so - and seeing that I was busy did the laundry and cleaned the kitchen! Maybe I should craft all day more often!

Thanks Ladies, and Greenie you did say you weren't going to give any Christmas presents (right after you asked me to make those if I remember right - lol). These should be better than the ones I gave you, they are a little lighter and should be more comfortable.
